Details Ferrum Technology Services falls victim to credit card scam with persons/company using our brand and published toll free number

Gilberts, IL October 13, 2009 (UPDATED November 5, 2009) – Ferrum Technology Services, an information technology (IT) consulting company serving the Midwest, announced today that it has fallen victim to a credit card scam involving the fraudulent use of it's corporate brand and toll free numbers.

Ferrum Technology Services recently become aware of a scam involving the use of our company name in addition to the use of our toll free number. Please be aware, Ferrum Software also appearing as FERRUM-SOFTWARE BAKU on bank statements, is in no relation to Ferrum Technology Services' corporate entity and is fraudulently using its information for credit card transactions. Victim's locations vary and to date include the United States, Australia, Japan, Canada, and the Netherlands and have reported charges to their credit card accounts ranging from $49 US to $99 US.

Victim's who received a charge to their credit card account, are instructed to dispute the charge by contacting the bank that issued the Visa or MasterCard and report the charge as fraudulent. The issuing bank will be able to assist in identifing the party associated with the fraudulant charges.  Ferrum Technology Services has been in close contact with its merchant processing company and has advised them of this activity; however, there is nothing Ferrum's processor can do as Ferrum Technology Services' merchant processing account is not being used for the transactions posted to the victim's accounts.

My computer was hijacked by a virus and made me put my debit card details in to fix the problem. It would not let me do anything but submit my card details. The message was "your computer is under severe threat of loosing all data". I am now aware that it was a clever decoy to get my money. This FERRUM-SOFTWARE BAKU was what appeared on my statement ($69.90!). How can I get my money back. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

Hello,

Thought you'd be interested in this information.

I noticed transactions in the name of FERRUM-SOFTWARE BAKU on my bank statement. One was a purchase and one was a credit.

I purchased a software product that was riddled with malware and when I found out I rang the group, accused them of their crime and demanded the money back.

The purchase was US$51.45 ($58.57 AU) and the credit was $58.42 AU.

I noted your news article about Ferrum falling victim to a credit card scam. I printed receipts etc. I am assuming you know the details of this group, however here is what I have - it may be of use:

website: witabett
Product called Antivirus Pro 2010
they say the transaction will appear on cc statements as www.ferrum-software.com
billing support e: support@pay-cc24.com
several phone #s for Aus, Canada, UK & US. Telephone contact sounded as if was not local.

All people I spoke w/ sounded Indian

Hope this is helpful.

Had a dodgy transaction on our recent bill from FERRUN-SOFTWARE, BAKU, AZE for US$ 41 - equivilant to UK£21. This was on 24/10/09 so they are at it in the UK also. Also got a scammer from website: SOFT.COM for about £60 (US$95) on the same statement - don't know if they are connected.
